Notes from Ray: Exhibited at Bucktown – Wicker Park Library in 2025. Exhibition Introduction I had just moved to Chicago and enrolled in Photo 2 for the spring semester at Columbia College taught by Brian Katz. This body of 19 black & white photographs was part of the final project show for our class. Considering myself a bit of a rebel, i wanted a semester project that was opposite of norms. Conventional wisdom had you photographing moving objects with small portable 35mm cameras, and shot still lifes with a big view cameras that required the camera on a tripod, the ole’ black cloth covering up the photographer & camera and you shot one sheet of film at a time. You photographed kids outdoors using a small 35mm cameras and a big view camera indoors to shoot inanimate objects. So i photographed kids outdoors with a view camera. Bio Ray Reiss is owner & founder of Ray’s Bucktown Bed & Breakfast in Chicago.
